You Don’t Need a Gym for your Daily Dose of Cardio

Well maybe for your cardio workout, but taking care of your heart involves more than just making it beat faster. Eating healthy is a big part of taking care of your heart as well as the rest of your body and mind. Gardening in the humidity and heat of even the mildest of summers not only takes a lot out of you, it can threaten your health. Why not move that garden indoors, with no muss-no fuss, and grow the heart healthiest vegetables known to man. What’s more, you can grow them without messy potting soil and dirt.

Hydroponic Gardening

This is a method of growing vegetables, fruits and flowers without potting soil or other messy dirt. Water (and ample humidity), nutrients (keep balanced PH) and the right kind of light and you can grow heart healthy foods in the comfort of your own home year round in all kinds of weather. No more frost, heat, drought, bugs, worms, weeds… God I hate weeds! So now that you realize you can grow healthy foods in your house, what foods should you concentrate on? Well, foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids are great for cardiac health.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

The right fresh hydroponically grown veggies can supply your heart with endless quantities of omega three fatty acids. Here are just a few examples of the vegetables you can grow in your hydroponics garden. Spinach: 2183 MG of omega three fatty acids in a 200 calorie serving. Alfalfa sprouts: 1522 MG; cauliflower: 1452 MG; romaine lettuce: 1329 MG; sweet green peppers: 1213 MG; zucchini: 1009 MG; yellow onions: 1000 mg; winter spaghetti squash: 961 MG; list goes on. Those are some of the highest concentrations in typical garden vegetables.

So you may still need to keep your membership to the gym for that cardio workout; but keeping your heart healthy with the right foods can be done in your home year round with a hydroponic garden.
